Practical Mineral Processing and Extraction Workshop
Radisson Blu Gautrain Hotel, Sandton Johannesburg,
16-20 April 2012
Africa hosts about 30 % of the earth mineral reserves and produces more than 60 metal and mineral products and is a major producer of several of the world’s most important minerals and metals including 40% of gold, 60% of cobalt and 90% of the world’s Platinum Group Metal (PGM) reserves. This makes Africa one of the major destinations for Foreign Direct Investment [FDI], a trend that is expected to continue. South Africa, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Zambia and the DRC dominate the African mining industry, whilst countries such as Angola, Sierra Leone, Namibia, Zambia and Botswana rely heavily on the mining industry as a major foreign currency earner. Due to continued growth of the global economy, the demand for natural resources, such as metals and minerals is rapidly increasing, and they are being exploited without meters and bounds. Processing and extraction of metals from natural resources could be sometimes a real challenge for industry.
Mineral Processing and Extraction Workshop provides a concise and thorough overview of extractive metallurgy as it is applied in industry today. It provides an overview of the processing and extraction challenges and provides answer to this challenge.
The primary objective of this workshop is to discuss current techniques and future trends in the area of mineral processing and metal extraction. This is an important and growing area, yet there are few practical and up-to-date workshops that devoted to this purpose. This workshop not only discusses the different techniques available for mineral processing and metal extraction, but it also provides attendees sound information on plant optimization and cost reduction.
The key topics covered are: Ore preparation and processing, extraction of metals from mineral ores, production of raw materials and fabrication into usable products, new and breakthrough processes, role of hydrometallurgy in nano materials plant optimization, data acquisition, modeling and control, and plant mass balance for better recovery and cost reduction are key topics in this course. This information will provide a sound and practical understanding of mineral processing and extraction.
The focus of the workshop is on present day processes and future developments combined with historical processes. It synthesizes detailed review of mineral processing and extraction with practical lessons from the leading international plants.
For full agenda, please email us your detailed contact information to enquiry@neo-edge.com.
The following key themes will be addressed in depth with Real Examples and Case Studies:
- Focus on ore analysis, handling and preparation including the latest technology in crushing, milling and classification.
- New methods for physical and chemical separation for ore processing and back end processes.
- Hydrometallurgical operation such as Leaching, purification methods such as SX, IX etc., and different precipitation routes will be covered.
- The latest trends in pyrometallugical operation.
- Different optimization strategies will be discussed such as data acquisition, mass balance, modeling and plant control.
- Main Challenge on bringing down cost and technological advancement will be addressed.
- Case Studies from international leading companies and many practical examples all through out each module.
A well known expert in extractive metallurgy and nano materials, developed a number of breakthrough processes for metal extraction and processing (copper, nickel, cobalt, gold, silver, platinum, zinc, iron and many oxides and hydroxides). Has published a number of patents, records of invention and has industrial and consulting experience at various Canadian and international organizations.
