He has also worked extensively on a major CRM implementation project at Kasikorn Bank in Thailand. Bill also guest lectured for Executive MBA students at the Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration of Chulalongkorn University. John Owens is a recognized expert in the field of microfinance with more than 21 years of field experience in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America and the Middle East. As Chief of Party for the USAID-supported Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines (RBAP) Microenterprise Access to Banking Services (MABS) program, he has worked directly with Globe Telecom’s G-Xchange Inc. to promote the use of GCASH in over 60 rural banks with over 880 branches and sub-offices now making use of mobile money to provide mobile phone banking services across the Philippines. John and his team have also provided support to RBAP to work with Smart Communications on the use of Smart Money in the rural banking sector as well. John has provided training and guidance to several other Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), regulators, and financial institutions across Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America by sharing experiences on how networks of Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) and banks can collaborate with Mobile Money Issuers. He has extensive experience working with regulators on mobile money issues and electronic banking as well as developing and implementing mobile money ecosystems that include microfinance services, linking bank products to mobile money, payroll servicing, P2P transfers, mobile payments fro micro and small businesses, and international remittances.
