Overview
Custody Transfer, also known as Fiscal Metering, occurs when fluids and gases are exchanged between parties. Payment is usually made as a function of the amount of fluid or gas transferred, so accuracy is important since a small mistake in measurement can add up, leading to financial exposure in custody transfer transactions.
In recent years this importance has grown, not only because of its widespread use for accounting purposes due to escalation in material values but also because of its application in several other aspects of upstream and pipeline operation such as leak detection systems and loss/gain balance. All of these applications constitute key elements for the operator who wants to maximize pipeline efficiency and requires a very strict correlation with accurate and reliable flow measurement.
This programme will introduce to the participants on the various kinds of flow metering systems, the flow measurement principles, measurement methods for a well-rounded short education throughout the 4-day event.

Dirk has been involved in the instrumentation field since 1977, starting off as a technician and working his way up to an engineer position before progressing to be a trainer for Shell Global Solutions (Holland) and the National Training Institute in Oman.
During his career spanning 38 years, he has been involved in several projects in India, Holland, Nigeria and Germany which includes:
- As an Instrument Trainer with the National Training Institute in Oman, setting a new training centre in Muscat for locals working in BP.
- Engaged as a QMI trainer with Sakhalin Energy, instructing on Basic Instrumentation and Process Control. He also developed QMI competency profiles and new company unit standards as applied for regular assessments.
- Doing a stint in the Harburg Refinery as the Senior Assistant QMI. He led a team of specialists in the engineering design, implementation and execution of QMI release, in-line blending project with a fully automated system resulted in a huge savings in the refinery.
- Being the QMI Maintenance Engineer at Nigeria LNG plant, where he oversaw the functioning of all installed analyser systems for 6 trains with the assistance of a team of technicians
- As a QMI start-up and commissioning engineer in Reliance Petroleum Refinery in India
