About your Expert Trainer & Practitioner
Anthony Way is a Director and Managing Partner of The Energy Contract Company, a commercial consultancy to the global energy industry. In this role, he has worked extensively as advisor to several major oil and gas companies and on a large number of energy projects worldwide. In his 30 year’s experience in the industry, he has led the negotiation of more than fifteen gas/LNG sale and purchase agreements in Asia, Europe and Africa and been involved, with a senior role, in many project financings. Anthony also frequently acts as an Expert in international disputes in the gas industry, and is currently heavily engaged in the process of resolution of several major disputes related to price under gas and LNG supply contracts.
The recent assignments and projects that Anthony and his team have worked on include:
Appointment as Expert to the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce in the resolution of a high value contractual dispute relating to gas sales in Central Europe;
Commercial advisor to the Singapore LNG Terminal in its import of LNG and the establishment of a new multi-user import terminal; including a leading role in the negotiations of the contractual arrangements.
Acted as Expert in the Expert Determination of a number of disputes in the European gas and LNG industry,
Expert Advisor to Edison, Italy in its Price Review of all its European gas supply contracts; provided economic and financial analysis to provide Expert submissions; acted as Expert in Arbitration proceedings.
Expert to the JV of: China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC); Petronas; and ONGC in the resolution of a disputed transportation issue in Sudan.
Appointed as Expert to a major Middle East gas producer in the resolution of pricing issues in Arbitration
Commercial advisor to Petronas on the export of LNG to Europe; advice on the terms for the regasification and marketing of LNG into the UK.
Advisor to Addax Petroleum on its program to meet the Flares-Out requirement in its operations in Nigeria; including negotiating the sale of gas currently being flared;
Commercial Advisor to the Interstate Gas System of Pakistan on import of gas from Iran and Turkmenistan.
Provision of commercial and Expert advice for Petronas in a multi-million dollar price dispute in a large-scale international gas sale at Terengganu, Malaysia;
Expert advisor to GDF Suez, France on the resolution of certain issues in its large-scale gas supply contracts;
Commercial Adviser to the OMV Group on the development of its gas discoveries in the West of Shetlands Basin in the UK;
Extensive advice to the BG Group at a senior level on several of its projects under development; including commercial advice and market assessment on the commercialisation of LNG production in Indonesia for export to China; commercial advice on a planned LNG import terminal in India; and advice on the Italian gas market and sales in Italy for BG Italia.

Expert advisor to RWE Energy AG, Germany on the resolution of certain issues in its large-scale gas supply contracts for both distribution and power generation;
Advice to Swiss gas/power utility BKW, on its move to gas-fired power; including negotiation of gas supply for first gas fired power (CHP) in Switzerland;
Anthony has led many training courses and workshops on all commercial aspects of the oil, gas and power industries, the most recent of which have been around negotiating successful gas and LNG contracts, and risk.
Prior to the Energy Contract Company, Anthony was a Senior Vice President of Enron International, responsible for one of its international regions. In that role, he was successful in a number of IPP and natural gas developments, fully responsible for all aspects of these projects, including the contractual and financing arrangements. Prior to that, he had a successful 16 year career with Amoco Production Co, working in Europe, the USA and in International operations. In this role, he instigated and completed several gas field developments based upon extensive contractual negotiation, the largest of which was the $2.1 billion development of the Everest & Lomond gas fields in the North Sea.
Anthony holds a Masters in Chemical Engineering from Cambridge University and in Business Administration from DUBS Business School in the UK.
