Tom Mowat
Principal Analyst – Head of Asia-Pacific Mobile Payments Program

Tom is the lead analyst for Analysys Mason’s Asia–Pacific research programme and is based in our Singapore office. Tom recently re-joined Analysys Mason from PwC, where he was a Manager in the TMT Consulting team. Tom has been writing on mobile payment since 2007, and has completed a range of research and consultancy projects on the topic with operators, regulators and industry bodies. He regularly attends mobile payment conferences, and will be publishing Analysys Mason’s first major mobile payments report, “Mobile payments in Emerging Asia – strategies for success in a complex and evolving market” in late March.
Tom has extensive expertise in fixed and mobile broadband services, strategy and forecasting, regulatory issues, cost-modelling and the particular issues affecting telecoms markets in developing regions. His previous role at Analysys Mason was within the Custom Research team, developing project-based analysis for key industry clients. Tom’s experience includes leading numerous projects for telecoms service providers, vendors, and regulatory and industry bodies, as an analyst and consultant. Tom has degrees in mathematical and particle physics from the University of Nottingham and the University of Durham.

John Owens is a recognized expert in the field of working with banks to provide greater access to financial services with more than 25 years of field experience in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America and the Middle East. Since 2004, he has worked on using mobile money to support development efforts in the Philippines and other countries. As Chief of Party for the USAID-supported Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines (RBAP) Microenterprise Access to Banking Services (MABS) program, he worked directly with Globe Telecom’s G-Xchange Inc. to promote the use of GCASH in over 70 rural banks with over 1,100 branches and sub-offices now making use of mobile money to provide mobile phone banking services as well as increase access to governmental conditional cash transfers. These banks have processed more than $400 million in mobile money enabled transactions since 2005. John and his team also provided support to RBAP to work with Smart Communications on the use of Smart Money in the rural banking sector as well.

Jeremy King, the European Director of the PCI Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) leads the Council’s efforts in increasing adoption and awareness of the PCI security standards in the European region. In this role, Mr. King works closely with the Council’s General Manager and representatives of its policy-setting executive committee from American Express, Discover, JCB International, MasterCard Worldwide, and Visa, Inc. His chief responsibilities include gathering feedback from the European merchant and vendor community, coordinating research and analysis of PCI SSC managed standards in European markets, and driving education efforts and Council membership recruitment through active involvement in local and regional events, industry conferences, and meetings with key stakeholders. He also serves as a resource for Approved Scanning Vendors (ASVs), Qualified Security Assessors (QSAs), Internal Security Assessors (ISAs), PCI Forensic Investigators (PFIs), and related staff in supporting regional training, certification, and testing programs.
Mr. King brings extensive experience in the payment card security and high-tech industries to the PCI Security Standards Council. Most recently, he served as Vice President for the Payment System Integrity Group at MasterCard Worldwide, where he played an integral role in developing payment terminal and chip card security programs. He also spent more than 14 years working in the U.K. semiconductor industry and has a strong background in payments technologies, including contactless card, encryption, and mobile payment technologies.

Naveed took up the responsibility of driving Innovation in Telenor group in 2008 and thus was posted to the group Head quarters in Oslo, Norway. He was Project Manager of an Ideation project, aimed at generating ideas from 40000 employees across 12 countries across the group.
